Automating "picture" of server performance

Hi all

I need to do the following using the performance monitor tool.

Im monitoring the %cpu used, transaction/sec and page/sec of a server using the perfomance monitor.

What i would need to do is to monitor all these information in a log that will reset himself once it has reached its maximum size limit. I also need to be able to take a "screenshot" of what was in the log when it became full but i cannot simply save the file because it would use too much space in the long run.

Is there a way for me to automating this information and make it so that each time the log become full i can take a screenshot (By that i mean getting a image of the information under the form of a graphic) of what was inside the log before it restart?

Ask if you need more precision

Dale

If you can't save the file, you probably can't save a graphic that would include everything and all the details in the file.

You can automate perf mon and dump it to a CSV. But if you tried to create a screenshot that shows all the details of all the info in the CSV and save all of those, it's likely not going to save space. Maybe you should look at the interval you are using in perf mon. Or save the file somewhere off the server if it's just space on the server itself. Or load the csv files into a table in a database. I just am not following the whole screenshot concept. It's not going to be that useful in analysis to have a ton of screenshots to look through.

I need those to help determine the best moment of the week to monitor the system through a server sided trace.

I think the best will be to just keep all the log and extract the information i want from it at the end of the week.

Automatically Preview reports

Hi all. Great Forum by the way

I have a question. I have some crystal reports that people open via a hyperlink on a web page. This brings up the crystal report but people have to then "refresh" or "run" the report themselves. They are then prompted for a "start" and "end" date for report.

Is it possible to have the report automically open prompting for the start and end dates? In other words open and run automically?

Regards

Johnu didn't mention what u r using to develop web pages.

If asp.net then use crystalreportviewer control it should automatically prompt for parameters.

Make sure u r not saving data with report.

I Hope this helps..

Automatic Page Repair with Database Mirroring

One of the new features announced with database mirroring is automatic page repair, where principal server picks the corrupt page from the mirror to repair it's own database This is really interresting, but will the feature be configurable? Will this feature be available in both synchronous as asynchronous mode? And, perhaps equally important, will it be an enterprise edition feature, or available in standard edition as well?

hello,

first, what do you mean by configurable? although the final details are still being decided, the intention is that the feature is always on by default with an option to manually turn it off for extreme cases (e.g. half the disk goes bad and it's better off that the entire database is restored as opposed to having mirroring ship tons of pages).

yes, automatic page repair will be available in both synchronous and asynchronous mode - there is really no difference between the two modes from the point of view of this feature, other than the delay one might get before the page is repaired, if the outstanding log send queue is very long in async.

as for availability of the feature in standard/enterprise, this is also still being decided, but all details will be in the final release documentation.

let me know if you have any other questions.

cheers,

kal.

|||That's what I wanted to know: The option of turning the feature off, and that it worked in both synchronous and asynchronous mode. I guessed that I'd have to wait to know if this is going to be an enterprise or standard-edition feature Smile Thanks a lot.|||

That's not a feature, that's a Blessing!

Automatic page numbering

We are using Crystal 10 and at the bottom of each page are using the automatic page numbering (page X of XX) . We have a report footer that only occurs on the last page of the report. When the last page contains only this footer, the automatic page numbering does not work properly. The first page says 1 of 1 and the second page also says 1 of 1. The automatic page numbering does not pick up on the fact that the report has 2 pages and generate the numbers properly. Any suggestions.Use this forumula

WhilePrinitingRecords;
Numbervar N;
N:=N+1'
And place this in Report footer

Auto Sizing the Page Header

Is there a way to auto-size the height of the page header depending on it's
contents?
For example, I have created a page header with a logo that appears on the
first page (1 inch x 1 1/2 inches) as well as my report title. But on
consecutive pages only the title shows and the image gets surpressed. I
would like to see the header contract in size on consecutive pages so that
only the report title fits at the top in an effort to conserve page real
estate.
Is this possible?
Thanks,
LisaNo. The page header height is set at design time and cannot be modified at
runtime.

Auto Page Breaking

How can I disable auto page breaking...? I have a report and I don't want any
page breaks... Strangely enough I found a post that says to use an expression
for the visibility property on a table, when set to "=False" this disables
auto page breaking for the table, I tried it and it prodcues the behavior I'm
looking for but I'm not sure I want to rely on that, seems kinda cluggy to
me.. Unless I have to of course..
Any ideas...?
Thanks,
DanHello Dan,
My understanding of this issue is you wants to disable page breaking of a
table. If I misunderstood your concern, please feel free to let me know.
Based on my research, pagination in reporting services is controlled by
InteractiveHeight and InteractiveWidth in HTML render.
So you need to increace these two properties.
Although the trick you use could disable the page breaking, this is a known
issue and Microsoft may consider to fix it. So we do not recommand you use
this to avoid the page breaking.

Thank you for your reply! I think we're on the wrong version of Reporting
Services, sorry I didn't put it in my post, I'm using SQL 2000 RS.. I didn't
find InteractiveHeight or Width in the documentation.. Any ideas on the
version I'm using or if I'm just blind and cannot find where to set these
properties could you tell me...? Thank you!!

Thanks for the update.
In RS 2000, you could use the PageHeight and PageWidth properties of the
report.

Auto generating an email

Hi All,

I need to opening up a browser page everyday at 6am. (What I am trying to do is to send an email with some formatted output everyday at 6am)

Is there anyway to achive this via SQL 05 Express?

Thanks,

Mal.

Hi,

why would you need to open a webpage every day? SQL Server's capable of sending emails itself. Another option is to create a console application that can send the mails and have it scheduled with windows task schedular to run at 6am every day.

Hi,

The reason I'd like to open up a web page is because, the template of the data is already there. With little bit of improvisation I would get it to be sending an email.

Actually, I did know (didn't know the code) it is possible to send emails from SQL 2K but not 05 Express.

My intension now is to open up the web page with a process and later kill the process. (with the help of schedular). It is not the best methods around as far as I can see, but hopefully I would be able to implement that quickly.

Thanks for the tip and the link.

create a console application and use theHttpServerUtility.Execute method to execute the webform and capture the rendered html. No need to open a browser etc.

Oh, thanks a lot.

I was thinking to open up a page...

Problem solves thanks to you again,
